What is Schengen ETIAS ?
ETIAS is European Travel Information and Authorisation System. designed as a pre-travel authorization system, similar to the United States’ Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Its primary objective is to strengthen internal security within the Schengen Zone—a group of European countries that have abolished passport and other types of border control at their mutual borders. The system will help EU authorities assess the eligibility of travellers prior to their arrival, allowing for a more efficient screening process. We have listed the 30 countries below that will require the ETIAS
Who Needs European Travel Information and Authorisation System?
Nationals of 60 countries currently exempt from the Schengen visa requirement will need to apply for ETIAS before arriving in Europe. These countries include destinations such as the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and several others. This implies that while visitors from these nations will not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days), they must obtain ETIAS authorization to enter the Schengen Area. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System will last for 3 years or until your Passport expires. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System is linked to a traveller’s passport so if you change your passport because it is lost or expired, you will need to make a new application.
The Application Process
The application for ETIAS will be straightforward and user-friendly, aimed at allowing travellers to process their travel authorization with ease. Travelers can complete the application online on the Global Law platform in just a few minutes. The process will require basic personal information, travel details, and the payment of a nominal fee. Once submitted, most applications will receive a response within minutes, although some may take up to 4 days for additional processing, especially if further checks are needed. Global Law will offer expert checking and live feedback during the application process should any issues arise. It also to be noted that travellers should make their application for an ETIAS well in time for their planned travel dates. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System will allow you to stay in the Schengen Area for 90 days within a 180-day period.Â
Why is Schengen ETIAS Being Implemented?
The introduction of ETIAS is part of the EU’s broader efforts to enhance security, as it aims to better control and monitor those entering its borders. The move is a response to increasing concerns regarding irregular immigration and terrorism, allowing for a more robust system to prevent individuals who may pose a risk from entering the EU. By requiring ETIAS authorization, European authorities can aggregate data on travellers and identify potential security threats before they arrive.
